What is your WHYs in LIFE?
I would like to share something here that I wrote in my FACEBOOK note sometimes in September 2009, how it inspires me and how it affects my life specially whenever I do something NEW; it has been a way of life for me. ENJOY reading
As I was contemplating on something, looking at my journal and things I would like
to write in preparing for my blog…this one topic I shared few years back, and it has been planted in my heart and a way of life; it works, and I would like to
share this again with you before the year end…Happy reading my friends and
Here’s a gift for all of us to take whenevever we are:
Dan O’Brien tells the story of sitting in a meeting with other Olympic hopefuls a couple of years before the games were held. Addressing the athletes was a former decathlon winner who asked how many of them had specific goals for their Olympic dreams. Everyone raised a hand. Then the speaker asked how many had these goals written down. Almost every athlete reaised a hand. Then he asked a final question: how many had their written goals with them? No one raised a hand. Not a single athlete had brought written goals. From then on, Dan O’Brien carried his goals with him everyday and everywhere. He went on to win the decathlon medal.
Be absolutely clear about what you want out of your business before you decide what you will put into it. Why is this important? Because goals create focus, energy, and passion.
—- they strengthen the will
—- they create purposeful living
—- they become a compass which gives us our headings when we get lost in the fog.
Goals keep us on track when the task seems too BIG, too DIFFICULT, and too FAR AWAY. When our dreams and future goals are vivid, it is much easier to know how to schedule our lives in the present.
In any significant life endeavor, there will be moments when we experience fatigue, frustration, and doubt. In those moments we are acutely aware of what we are doing, how exciting it is, and how much easier it would be to quit. So much discomfort could be eliminated by just quitting. And in those moments when we are tempted to take the easy way out, we will ask ourselves, “WHY AM I DOING THIS?” It is a good question. But when we asked this question we’d better have a reply that is quick, cogent, and unequivocating.
For this reason, knowing WHY we do the business is more important than HOW we do it. The WHY is what keeps us going while we learn the HOW we do it. Ask any enterpreneur what keeps him or her going when business is not developing as swiftly as they imagined.
There is one thing that keeps them going: the clarity of their DREAMS.
—- they keep their eyes on the prize.
—- they take the long view.
—- they dont let immediate circumstances rob them of their future dreams.
Or as Paul Orberson (who makes more than US$1 million per month in this industry) remind us, “Dont let the bugs on the windshield rob you of seeing the horizon.” It is vivid, palpable conviction of the future that keeps people going when the present is not all that is pleasant. They have determined what they want. And now they will not be denied. Deciding what they want and why they want it creates what Bear Bryant called “bulldong tenacity.”
A clear dream does two things: it creates perspective and perserverance.
There is one book that says, “Write it down and make things happen”. Have you tried to write down your dreams and see
things before it happens? If not, why not try this time and you will see…I tried it so many times and it works!!!
